Our creamy Vol-au-vegan is the traditional Flemish comfort food... reimagined. Filled to the brim with mushrooms and leeks, and not shy in the spice-department either. Oh and there's a swig of booze to add an extra touch - what could you want more? (Don't worry: all alcohol is long-evaporated in the cooking process.)

Cooking instructions

Simply take your packet of Solid Stash from the freezer, remove from packaging and place frozen into a casserole or microwave dish. Add 1-2 tbsp water & warm on stove (medium heat) / in microwave, often stirring carefully, until piping hot throughout (10-15 min).

Fresh vegetable stock (incl. celery), mushroom, leek, soy cream (sunflower oil, soybeans, xanthan gum, guar gum, carrageenan, sea salt, aroma), vegetable oil, wheat flour (gluten), sherry wine (sulphites, evaporated alcohol), fresh lemon juice, fresh parsley and chives, salt, spices (incl. mustard), soy sauce (water, soybeans, salt, vinegar).

Ultimate Friday night feast in our home: pair with

  • fresh Belgian fries from "het frietkot"
  • Traditional “koninginnehapje” puff pastry cases.
  • Little “meat”balls:
  • Buy a nice vegan/vegetarian “meatball” at the supermarket (or have a go at making your own!)
  • Flexitarians could add real little meatballs of course. In that case, boil them in stock for a few minutes before stirring them to your hot vol-au-not-so-vegan.
  • A big spoonful of old school Belgian mayonnaise (or try a vegan alternative!)
  • A lovely crisp green salad
  • Some parsley and/or chives to garnish

Ensure it remains frozen and at a steady temperature during transport (which should be as short as possible), and utilise appropriate cooling kit for this. Once defrosted eat within 24 hours and do not refreeze. Consume within 6 months after preparation date.
