Why this dish

Honestly, is there anything more comforting than a bubbling oven-baked pie with golden crunch on top? When we set out to create our ultimate comfort dish, this was the vision: warming, hearty, and totally moreish. Enter: the Proper Pub Pie.

Built in layers like a good old hachis parmentier, our pie starts with a savoury base of lentils and vegetables — think black and green lentils simmered with onion, carrot, savoy cabbage and a subtle hint of mustard. We then top it with a creamy mash (made from white and sweet potatoes), add a sprinkle of golden gluten-free crumb, and bake until it's crisp and satisfying.

It's also worth noting: thanks to the lentils and all the fibre-rich veg, this dish is naturally high in plant protein and a great source of iron and B-vitamins.

This dish stands proudly on its own, but if you'd like to take it to the next level: serve with a simple green salad.
