Cooking instructions

How to prepare:

Remove your frozen Neatloaf burger from its packaging. Put the burger on some baking parchment into a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees and bake for for 20-25 minutes. Check that it is piping-hot throughout before digging in.ย If you are not eating your baked Neatloaf right away: store in the refrigerator and consume within 24 hours.

Sometimes the best recipes start by accident. This Neatloaf Burger began as a way to use up leftovers โ€“ and ended up a fan favorite. The combo of lentils, nuts and rice gives it a firm texture and rich flavor reminiscent of classic meatloaf, but fully plant-based and gluten-free.

We shape the mixture into burgers, give them a light bake, then freeze them โ€“ so all you need to do is reheat at home. Theyโ€™re great warm for dinner, cold in a lunchbox, or straight from the fridge as a snack.

Serve with vegetables, roasted potatoes or a nostalgic scoop of applesauce. And yes, ketchup is always welcome.

Serving suggestions:

Our Neatloaf burger is full to the brim with rice (a carb) as well as lentils, nuts and seeds (protein), so all you need to do to make it a complete meal is add your veggies of choice. Or ditch the vegetables and just have it as a super easy & delicious snack!ย 

As a full meal:
ย 

  • Serve with any vegetable you like to serve with โ€œnormalโ€ burgers!
  • A super-quick, super-simple and super-satisfying kiddy-style meal is Neatloaf, boiled potatoes & apple sauce (yes, from a jar is fine).
  • Also super-quick, simple and delicious: while you pre-heat the oven, slice 1-2 bell peppers into strips. Put the frozen neatloaf onto baking paper, and the pepper strips right next to it. Toss the pepper strips with some olive oil, balsamic vinegar, pepper and salt. Bake all together for the usual 20 minutes & dinner is ready.
  • For a traditional โ€œmeat and veggiesโ€ dinner, why not trick your mind into thinking youโ€™re having mashed potatoes by cooking and pureeing a mix of (root) vegetables. E.g. sweet potato mash; cauliflower mash; broccoli & potato mash; spinach & potato mashโ€ฆ
  • Ratatouille / Mediterranean vegetables is a delicious combination as well.
  • Salad leaves & vinaigrette
  • As a part of a picnic spread


As a snack: simply serve hot or cold (but always oven-roasted first, never just defrosted) with some mustard or ketchup
